Suspending Facebook Account
There has been a lot of controversy about me suspending my Facebook account. Many people are asking me "Why would the self-proclaimed social networking whore (that's me!) do such a thing?" Well there are a cornucopia of reasons I would do this and here is......my formal explanation:
Social networking is a efficient way to help me keep up with people as well as current events. However I have recently ran into conflict in my personal as well as professional life. Is Facebook a gift or curse?

Social networking is a efficient way to help me keep up with people as well as current events. However I have recently ran into conflict in my personal as well as professional life. Is Facebook a gift or curse?

Professional Reasons for the suspending my facebook account:
- When playing a role as a mentor and/or one who has to uphold a professional image at all times cannot have "uncensored status updates". I like to speak my mind on all aspects of life. (for example: I wonder what life would be like uncircumcised)
- When searching for employment opportunities keep in mind that your employer may google you. Is your name easily found in a google search engine? (Mine is, therefore I am switching all other accounts to alias names)
- It is key to not let your employer know you are seeking other opportunities (they may fire you). It will be our little secret. SSShhhh!
- People can read in between the lines. What you may see as a status update might be tomorrows office gossip. #NotaGoodLook
Personal Reasons for suspending my Facebook Account:
- Present Moment Awareness- By not always responding to Facebook status updates I am more engaged in what is going on.
- Social- The key to social networking is being social but what ever to just calling people to see how they are doing? Have we gotten away from speaking to people one-on-one?
- More Blog Posts- I have more meaningful days when I set aside time to think and reflect on the environment around me. This not only encourages growth and intellectual development but it allows myself to follow up on short term and long term goals.
- Finding out who my true friends are- who will make a effort to still stay in contact with me when my facebook closes and who wants attention by just commenting and tagging my photos.
Thanks everyone for understanding. I will still be on twitter so you can subscribe to my status updates there. (only a select few will be accepted to respect my confidentiality)

Visiting the Obama's
Tyra Banks always uses the phrase "smile with your eyes". I was not able to perfect this until June 29th 2009. Not only was this my 21st birthday but I got a formal invitation to the white house for a press conference representing SMYAL as a Youth Advocacy Intern. On this day Obama was scheduled to make a decision about the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) policy. I was completely unaware that he would make that decision in front of all of us this day. I am pretty skeptical when it comes to politicians but when Obama spoke I felt like it was genuine. Not only because of the LGBTQ organizations and families that were invited but because I am a avid follower on Twitter (one of the most popular social networking tools available via the Internet). When he decided to throw out the DOMA policy I was excited know that this was a stepping stone for not only for me but the many people I come in contact with on a daily basis as well. Although we are still separated from society we have moved one step further towards equality. Although I did "Vote for Change", I understand that change in fact does take time. I guess what I am trying to say is that I was proud to be black gay and 21!

Kenny Chesney Tomorrow!
That's right! Two days before my birthday and I get to see Kenny Chesney (in Pennsylvania) with several other country music superstars. If you wasn't aware how I feel about this guy, I am gonna fill you in on a little secret.

ssshhhh.......

I would soooo 'go gay' for Kenny Chesney.
[Who would you go gay or straight for?]

Meeting Obama [ On My Birthday ]
Well most of you may know that Obama is supposed to make a decision on the DOMA policy on June 29th,2009. What you may not know is that he is meeting with several LGBT organizations that day for a press conference inside of the white house. I am not privileged enough to know all the groups that will be in attendance but I have to opportunity to come. Now you may ask why me? I am a intern with the Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League in the District of Columbia, and I will be there representing the organization as a intern. I understand that we will be talking about DOMA and LGBT issues, but I do not know the extent of everything that will be discussed. My plan is to prepare for anything! Instead of going out and partying for my 21st birthday, I am pledging to a day of sobriety for a good cause. I have scheduled a 5 day weekend to celebrate. Hopefully I can score a photo op. I will keep everyone posted.
